Rindr Privacy Policy
Effective date: 18 July 2026 Last updated: 18 July 2026 Version: 2026.1
Data controller: Andy Judge (trading as Rindr), United Kingdom Contact: privacy@rindr.app Support: support@rindr.app Website: https://www.rindr.app
This Privacy Policy explains how Andy Judge (“Rindr”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use the Rindr mobile apps, web app at `/app/`, website, and related services (the “Services”).
Please also read our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
1. Our commitment
Rindr is a geosocial dating and networking product for adults. We aim to be clear about what we collect, why we collect it, and what control you have. Please also read our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
2. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to users of the Services (mobile and web). It does not cover:
- unrelated third-party websites or apps linked from Rindr;
- employment, contractor, or job-applicant data (Rindr is operated as a small independent business and does not publish a separate employee privacy portal);
- payment card data handled directly by Apple, Google, or Stripe (we receive limited purchase/subscription metadata, not full card numbers).
3. Personal information we collect
3.1 Information you provide
- Account information: email address and/or phone number, password, date of birth, country, and (where required by your country settings) age-assurance materials such as a selfie and/or government ID image.
- Profile information: display name, bio, photos, tribes, looking-for / meet preferences, social links you choose to add, and optional identity fields (for example gender identity, pronouns, sexual orientation).
- Sensitive / health-related profile fields (optional): information you may choose to add such as HIV status, last tested, PrEP status, body metrics, or sexual position preferences. Treat anything on a public or semi-public profile as visible to other users according to your settings.
- Messages and calls: text, images, video, audio, stickers, GIFs, shared location, albums, and related metadata when you use chat or call features.
- Meet Now / Right Now: status text, optional session photo, discreet mode, and expiry related to that feature.
- Support and feedback: information you send when contacting support or responding to surveys.
- Purchase / subscription information: plan type, transaction references, amounts, currency, country, and expiry dates associated with your account. Payment credentials are processed by Apple, Google Play, and/or Stripe.
3.2 Information we collect automatically
- Device and technical data (for example device model, OS, app version, browser type, IP address, push notification tokens).
- Approximate or precise location when you allow location access, used for nearby discovery, distance sorting, Meet Now, and related features. You can disable location in device/browser settings; core nearby features may then be limited or unavailable.
- Usage data about how you interact with the Services (for example profiles viewed, feature use, crash/diagnostic logs where available).
- Content signals needed for safety and moderation (for example reports you submit or that mention you).
3.3 Information from others
- Other users (for example reports, blocks, or messages that include information about you).
- Payment platforms (Apple, Google, Stripe) confirming purchases or subscription status.
- Authentication or messaging providers used to deliver OTP codes (email SMTP and/or SMS gateway).
- Optional third-party content providers (for example Giphy when you insert GIFs).
4. What we do with your personal information
We use personal information to:
- create and maintain your account and authenticate you;
- provide dating/social features (profiles, nearby grid, messaging, Meet Now, taps/views where available);
- show your profile and chosen information to other users according to product design and your settings;
- process subscriptions and entitlements;
- send service messages (OTP, security, account notices) and, where you opt in, marketing communications;
- moderate content, investigate abuse, enforce Terms and Community Guidelines, and protect users and the platform;
- troubleshoot, secure, and improve the Services;
- comply with law and respond to lawful requests.
We may create aggregated or de-identified statistics that are no longer personal information. This policy does not restrict use of truly anonymised data.
We do not currently operate a third-party behavioural advertising network inside the Rindr apps like large consumer ad platforms. If that changes, we will update this policy and, where required, obtain consent or provide opt-out controls.
5. How we share your personal information
We may share personal information with:
- Other Rindr users, when you publish profile content, send messages, share location, or use features designed to be visible to others.
- Service providers who help us run the Services (hosting, email delivery, SMS delivery, push notifications via Expo/Apple/Google infrastructure, payment processors, error/logging tools if enabled).
- Payment platforms (Apple, Google, Stripe) as needed to process purchases.
- Authorities and professional advisers, when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Services.
- A successor entity, if Rindr’s business or assets are transferred (your information may transfer as part of that transaction under appropriate safeguards).
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some privacy laws define “sale” or “sharing” broadly to include certain advertising disclosures; if we engage in activity that meets those definitions, we will provide the required notices and opt-outs.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
- Web app / website: we use essential storage (for example session/auth tokens and preferences) needed to operate the Services. Analytics or marketing cookies are only used if enabled; if we enable them, we will update this section and, where required, show a consent banner.
- Mobile apps: login and preference data may be stored in secure on-device storage. Device advertising identifiers are not used by Rindr for third-party ad networks at this time.
- You can clear cookies/site data in your browser and revoke location/push permissions in device settings.
See also our Cookie Policy (if published for your country) at `/legal/cookies/` or in-app Legal.
7. How long we keep your personal information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including:
- while your account remains active;
- for a limited period after deletion to complete erasure, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, or meet legal/accounting obligations;
- chat history according to product retention settings and any per-user retention choices where available;
- banned or abusive accounts may retain limited identifiers and evidence needed for safety and enforcement.
When you delete your account, we aim to remove or irreversibly anonymise profile and personal content within a reasonable period (typically within 30 days), except where we must retain information longer for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.
8. International data transfers
Rindr is operated from the United Kingdom. If you access the Services from another country, your information may be processed in the UK and in other countries where our hosting or service providers operate (which may include the United States or EU regions depending on infrastructure).
Where required by UK GDPR / GDPR, we use appropriate transfer tools (for example adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses with providers).
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Access a copy of your personal information;
- Correct inaccurate information (you can edit much of your profile in-app);
- Delete your account and related personal information (subject to legal exceptions);
- Restrict or object to certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (for example optional marketing, or optional sensitive profile fields);
- Data portability, where applicable;
- Opt out of marketing emails via unsubscribe links (we may still send essential service messages).
How to exercise rights
- Prefer in-app / web account tools (edit profile, privacy settings, delete account) when available.
- Or email privacy@rindr.app from the email/phone associated with your account so we can verify you.
We may ask for information to confirm your identity before fulfilling a request.
UK users may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). EEA users may contact their local supervisory authority.
10. How we protect your personal information
We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to a small online service (access controls, encrypted transport (HTTPS), hashed passwords, server hardening practices, and least-privilege access). No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong unique password and protect your device.
11. Children and age requirement
The Services are for adults only. You must meet the minimum age for your country (generally 18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact privacy@rindr.app or use in-app reporting so we can remove the account.
Where country settings require selfie and/or ID checks, that information is used for age/identity assurance and safety, not for public display.
12. How to contact us or complain
Privacy: privacy@rindr.app Support: support@rindr.app Legal: legal@rindr.app Postal / operator details: Business correspondence address available on request at legal@rindr.app (residential address is not published). (or available on request at legal@rindr.app if address is not published)
13. Policy changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The version published at https://www.rindr.app/legal/privacy/ (or the in-app Legal screen) is the current version. If we make material changes, we will provide notice in the Services or by email/push where appropriate, and may require renewed acceptance when legally needed.
14. Legal bases for processing (UK / EEA / similar laws)
Where UK GDPR / GDPR (or similar laws) apply, we rely on one or more of:
| Purpose | Typical data | Legal basis | |--------|---------------|-------------| | Provide the account and core Services (profiles, messaging, location-based discovery, Meet Now) | Account, profile, location, messages, device data | Contract (to provide the service you request) | | Optional sensitive profile fields you choose to add | Health/sexuality-related fields you enter | Consent (and/or explicit consent where required) | | Age assurance (selfie/ID where required) | Identity images, DOB | Legal obligation and/or legitimate interests in keeping the service adults-only; consent where required | | Safety, fraud prevention, enforcement of Terms | Reports, logs, limited message evidence | Legitimate interests; legal obligation where applicable | | Payments and entitlements | Purchase metadata | Contract; legal obligation (tax/accounting) | | Service emails/SMS (OTP, security) | Contact details | Contract / legitimate interests | | Optional marketing | Contact details | Consent (or soft opt-in where allowed) | | Product improvement and diagnostics | Usage/technical data | Legitimate interests | | Legal requests | Relevant account records | Legal obligation / legitimate interests |
You may withdraw consent where processing is consent-based; that does not affect prior lawful processing.
15. Additional notes for U.S. residents
Depending on your state, you may have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of certain “sales,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising. Rindr does not currently sell personal information for money or run cross-context behavioural ads in-app. If that changes, we will provide a “Do Not Sell or Share” (or equivalent) control.
Do Not Track: browsers may send DNT signals; there is no consistent industry standard, and we do not respond to DNT at this time beyond the controls described above.
